ABOUT KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY ~ Danielle Landes knew that knitting was historically a community pastime that became a solitary activity. She launched World Wide Knit in Public Day in 2005 as a local event ‒ It attracted knitters from 25 localities. Her idea spread each year and has since become a global phenomenon! 1125 venues in 54 countries participated in 2017. Astrid Salling, of Copenhagen, Denmark, has organized WWKiP Day in June each year since 2011.
Fantastic Fibers Miami has hosted this event locally since 2016, bringing together diverse people from across South Florida. This specific day is designated as a great way to get your yarn, get out of your house with and connect with others like you. In Florida, we will Knit In Public in the air conditioned comfort of the mall.
Knit, crochet, embroider, weave ‒ it is all about the threads of connectivity! See you there!

This month, Fantastic Fibers Miami is all about the Yarn Bomb at MOCA and the Fresh Threads exhibition in the Pavilion Gallery. This show is because of the MOCA Teen art program and their work, as inspired by Fantastic Fibers Miami members, Morgan Lorenzo who organized all of it; Dana Yancoskie who contributed hours and hours, miles of crochet, and invaluabe pillar calculations and installation advice; and me with my knitted yarn bomb strips to which I added more, plus hours and hours of time teaching the kids to knit. They were great.
Our Artist Books from the 2017 Round Robin Project are also on view in the gallery. They are very cool.
